Haunted By History- The Kennedy Assassination

“I’m haunted by history and often lie awake at night wondering how different the world
would be today if President John F. Kennedy would have lived,” – Ralph Thomas

November 22nd @ 12:30 marks the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of
John F. Kennedy. President Kennedy was only in office 1000 days. I’m haunted by history and
often lie awake at night wondering how different the world would be today if President John F. Kennedy
would have lived. There are 58,195 names on The Vietnam Veterans Memorial. If John Kennedy would
have lived, this would not have become history as Kennedy had secret plans to pull out. Many people
do not understand this but during the Cuban Missile Crisis, I believe that President Kennedy
saved the world from nuclear annihlation. When the photos of evidence of nuclear missiles in Cuba had
been brought to the President and he had his first meetings on this, every one of his advisors wanted to
attack as soon as possible to take them out. What we did not know at the time is that portable nuclear
weapons where already in operation in Cuba and orders had already been given to launch them should the
United States attack Cuba. If it had not been for the President, it is now clear that we would have started
a nuclear war which likely would have annihilated the world as we know it. Kennedy started the race to land a
man on the moon and return him safely to earth and if it was not for him we might not have done that because
he was able to unify America in a common goal. He never lived to see this American goal achieved.
Remember it was JFK who first came up with the idea of placing all of the law enforcement and intelligence
agencies of the federal government under one command so they could not run amuke and not conflict with
each other. He was right about that but it took another 25 plus years before that happened.
Kennedy brought to the forefront the civil rights movement, wanted a minimum wage,
Created the Peace Corps, started the Food Stamp program and was the first
president to create aid to the elderly.

Many now believe that President Kennedy was going to drop Lyndon Johnson from the ticket
during his run for his second term in office, retire J. Edgar Hoover as Director of the FBI, end our
innvolement in the Vietnam war, reorgainze federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies in a way
that oversight could be maintained, bring forward civil rights issues, raise the minimum wage,
bring forward his brother’s fight against organized crime, and end the income oil depletion allowance deductions.

” I read this book in High School and considered it one of the
very best books on American history,” Ralph Thomas

The orginial ad copy of the book reads:
” In this remarkable book, the Junior Senator from Massachusetts writes brilliantly
about a handful of American statesman who, at crucial times in our history, risked their personal
and public lives to do the one thing that seemed in itself right. “

You can still find Profiles In Courage by the man of courage in most book stores today.
