Terrorists Among Us In America

In 23 years, America has had 57 Radical Islamic Terrorist attacks on American Soil.  In recent years, they have been becoming more frequent. In the last year, there has been seven incidents and over this last weekend there were five incidents. Its apparent that these attacks can occur at any time. Some of them are just one Radical Islamic Terrorist with a rifle or knife  killing single Americans at random while others are mass killings with guns, knives and home made bombs. Here is a list of the 57 Radical Islamic Terrorist attacks. Except for the most recent ones, we are only listing those in which deaths occurred.

Data theft rises sharply, insiders to blame

A new survey exploring the main causes of corporate data breaches suggests that three out of four organizations in the US have been hit with the loss or theft of sensitive data in the last two years — and insiders are usually the ones at fault.

According to the researchers involved in the study, rising data breach and information loss is often due in part to compromised employee accounts, which is further exacerbated by staff and third parties having access to more sensitive information than they need.

In addition, the “continued failure” by businesses to properly monitor access and activity around email and file systems is to blame.

The report, “Closing Security Gaps to Protect Corporate Data: A Study of US and European Organizations,” conducted by the Ponemon Institute and sponsored by Varonis, surveyed over 3,000 employees in the US, UK, France, and Germany. End users and IT staff came from industries including finance, the public sector, healthcare, retail, and technology.

To give you an idea, one year of spying costs $389 for a smartphone alone, or $489 for a smartphone and tablet.

Old-school investigative techniques have their place. But as PIs, we ignore technology at our peril.

I speak to a lot of investigators. Inevitably, we share “war stories,” tips and strategies about how we operate. Over the last several years, I have increasingly heard something that has disturbed me: Many PIs express a complete lack of interest in technology—the investigative Luddite, so to speak.

The Low-Tech (or No-Tech) Investigator

Several brilliant investigators, who are extremely close to me and whom I respect enormously, don’t have a clue about using technology—like when I recently tried sharing some documents on Dropbox and was met with utter confusion. (No, I will not start sending thumb drives to share files.) Or one investigator’s practice of only using hardwired Internet (and never using WiFi), which he explained made you immune to attackers and phishers. (It doesn’t.)

There is also an utter lack of awareness about capitalizing on the explosion of social media. More times than I like to admit, PIs have asked, “How do you find if someone has a Facebook page?” Or “Social media is completely useless because all it does it tell you what they ate for breakfast.” (Hint: In addition to what they are eating for breakfast, you can find millions of dollars worth of superyachts and private jets.)

In Memory of Iconic Investigative Legend J.W. Jack Murray

J.W. Jack Murray, born April 8th, 1934 in Buffalo, New York was called home April 26th, 2016 in Dallas Texas. Jack Murray graduated from Canisus High School, Buffalo New York, The United States Navel Academy, Bainbridge, Maryland, The University Of Hartford and the University of Connecticut Graduate School Of Business, Storrs, Connecticut.

He was the only son of Jack and Frances Murray, loving brother of the late Sharon Wurster of Orchard Park, New York. He is survived by his wife Elouise Curtis-Murray, a daughter Mirakal Curtis-Murray and five sons  John, James, Jerry, Jeff and Jay Murray.

Murray was an Internationally known investigator, wrtier and lecturer. In 1998 he was named one of the top 5 investigators and in 2001 named one of the top 25 investigators of the century. The author of ten books in the field of accident investigation and two time winner of the prestigous Editor And Publish Award. He was named author of the year in 2003 by the National Association Of Investigative Specialists. Murry was also named International Forensic Writer Of The Year in England. J.W. Jack Murray was a highly popular speaker at investigative conferences throughout the country.

Murray was on the building committee of Enrico Fermi High School of Enfield Connecticut. Murry was a founding member of the Enfield Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He moved to Dallas in 1973 and was licensed private investigator since 1976. He was a charter member of The Inner Circle Of Investigators.

Murray was a Master Mason, James Ladd Burgess Lodge #1305 AF&M. A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Hella Shrine Temple of Garland, Texas.
